The cost of being wrong? A tenant moving into a fully leased commercial space in the South, in April, without working HVAC. That's not a minor inconvenience. That's a $15,000 compensation claim and a burned relationship.
If missing the deadline costs more than the expedite fee, pay the expedite fee. That's the whole calculation.
I have mixed feelings about rush fees and guaranteed delivery premiums. On one hand, they feel like price gouging for something that should be standard. On the other hand, I've sat through enough "should be any day now" phone calls to understand what certainty is really worth when the deadline is real.
To be fair, this doesn't mean you should always pay for rush service. It means you should calculate the cost of being late. If the answer is "nothing," take the cheaper route. If the answer is "a lot," stop negotiating against yourself over the expedite fee.

AAON equipment uses specific filter sizes and MERV requirements. You can't just grab a 16×25×1 from the supply closet and expect it to work. Some units ship with MERV 13 filter frames, and installing a lower-rated filter changes the pressure drop across the system. That affects airflow and can trigger fault codes on the unit's ECM motors. According to ASHRAE Standard 52.2, MERV ratings define a filter's ability to capture particles of different sizes—and higher ratings come with higher static pressure drops that the system must be designed to handle.
A K&N air filter often comes up as an aftermarket option because it's washable and reusable. It's a good product, but it's not automatically compatible with commercial HVAC equipment.
